Book Review--Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth

Today I am reading a fascinating book called Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth by William Bryant Logan. It was recommended at a sustainable agriculture retreat that we attended a few months ago. I was a little skeptical about reading a whole book on dirt, but it is really interesting. Logan's essays don't just cover the dirt itself, but also associated critters like dung beetles, gophers, and earthworms. All the while he is weaving in stories, like how he tried to dig to China at age 6, how old-time farmers used to taste their dirt, or how a researcher followed a gopher around as it dug 500 feet of tunnels. Two thumbs up on this one!
