First off, I hope you all had a wonderful Easter Day. Our family attended church in the morning and spent the rest of the day visiting family at three different places. We were tired by the end of the day, but a happy kind of tired. The last few days have been quiet and relaxing; I didn't leave the house for two whole days.
I think I've mentioned before that our family likes to look for "signs of spring" this time of year--the children are always excited when they spot something sprouting, a robin, or buds on a tree. My sign of spring today was the package from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds that the mailman stuffed into my mailbox today. Here's the pile of seed packets--guess I've got some organizing to do!
Another sign of spring is the stack of new beehives that is slowly being assembled in the kitchen. Here's one with the frames all ready to go. We ordered four packages of bees today from an Amishman nearby who sells bee supplies, so we need to have their new homes ready to go when they arrive. The kids have earned some money by helping to put the frames together; we had quite an assembly line going last weekend. The beeswax in the frames smells so good--every time I walk by I have to lean over and take a whiff!

How exciting! I am trying to convince my husband to raise bees. (The fact that our backyard is smaller than a postage stamp is still a bit of a problem for all the things I want to do....)
Thrilled to find your blog. We seem to have several interests in common--including homeschooling, gardening, and reading about food politics.
Welcome! Glad you stopped by!
